Psychological Health and Wellness is currently conducting research exploring the process of how trauma creates inter-generational injunctions of inhibition and compulsion that interfere with family dynamics and progressive normal development of children. This process not only interrupts or interferes with normal child development, but is related to the emergence of personality disorders and distortions.
Other research is examining the effective use of interviewing to build attunement and reduce defensiveness in highly disordered individuals and families. Dr. Rhoton claims that “many professionals that are interviewing clients with personality disorders and pervasive histories of trauma will, unintentionally increase the clients already defended posture, thus creating additional barriers to effective treatment”.
