Recurrent Distressing Memories: Incest

Author: admin, 11 17th, 2009

The effects of childhood incest

It has become increasingly clear that a host of problems can be related to the experiences surrounding  incest. These symptoms include:

  1. low self-esteem;
  2. anxiety disorders and chronic depression;
  3. eating disorders;
  4. drug and alcohol abuse;
  5. abusive marital relationships
  6. Incestuous relations in the family of creation.

The most common problems brought into therapy by survivors fall into four areas: interpersonal relationships; thinking problems; being able to control one’s emotions; and mystery physical.    While survivors do not have to present with serious psychopathology in all four areas, they often will fall on a continuum of moderate to high dysfunction in all categories.

Don’t suffer in silence, you can find healing and relief from the problems created in your life by the actions of others.

If you are afflicted by the symptoms of trauma we encourage you to call our office or schedule a complementary thirty minute consultation with one of our therapists at Psychological Health and Wellness, meet with one of our dedicated practitioners and learn how our trauma counselors can help you live a life free from the suffering effects of anxiety, depression and trauma.
