Diana’s story:
” . . . I had been in counseling several times, my husband of five years thought I was crazy, because all sorts of little things would make me angry and upset, and frankly I was bad at having relationships with him and my children. I grew up in what I thought was mostly normal home, except for three years when my mother’s second husband wouldn’t leave me alone. After learning about traumagenic family dynamics from Dr. Bob and how those patterns continued to play out in my life, I finally felt there was hope that I might save my marriage and relationship to my children. It has only been six months, but my relationship with my family is the best that it ever has been, and I feel strong and competent to succeed where I was failing . . . (2003).

Sariah’s story:
“I was thirty-one years old, just had my second divorce when a three year depression began. It seemed like the world fell on me! I was lonely, felt like a loser, unattractive and unloveable. I would go to work and come home and lay on the couch until I woke there sometime in the middle of the night. During this time my mother died of a stroke and my whole world was filled with pain and darkness. I tried counseling and I just couldn’t connect with the counselors, so I felt hopeless. . . One of my friends “knew someone” so I decided to give it one more try. I remember leaving the first session with a feeling that thing could get better, and over the next few weeks things greatly improved. I teased my counselor that therapy wasn’t supposed to be fun, but it was. (2006)

Jared’s story:
” I was referred to counseling by my doctor, because my anxiety was interfering with my health. I worked 65-70 hours a week and never felt like I was effective enough. I would be anxious and worry about many potential problems, most of which never took place. I was highly critical of my own performance and the staff of 80 that I supervised. To be honest the interventions seemed so strange, and funny, but really helped me get a handle on what was happening inside my head. I think it was 7 or 8 sessions in total over 3 months, but I can honestly say that learned many valuable lessons. I am now enjoying my work and my staff, and I believe that they like me better too . . . ” (2008)
